Getting to Captiva by boat is easy. We docked at Jensen's Marina and explored Captive by foot. Driving the long way around could take an hour and a half, but by boat it's only a 20 minute ride. Golf cart and bike rental rentals are available to explore Captiva further. We had lunch at the the Mucky Duck, a short walk from Jensen's Marina, which has yummy food and a great public beach. We finished the day off by cruising to Sanibel Point for an afternoon swim in the emerald clear water, before returning the boat to Monroe Marina.
One of the best kept secrets of St. James city, FL is that Captiva and Sanibel are only a short boat ride away. We rented a deck boat from Monroe Marina and enjoyed a great day. The first leg of the trip was was blind pass and a nice slow ride through the mangroves and checked out the beautiful properties on Captiva. We continued to redfish pass and enjoyed the tranquility of a beach that is only accessible by boat. We fished the day on Sanibel with cocktails and a wonderful lunch at Grandma's Dot's.
My wife and I checked out the Blue Dog Bar and Grill in Matlacha. I have heard many good things about the place but never had the chance to stop in and check it for myself. I took the recommendation of the friendly server and had the Tuna Nachos. Wow, perfectly seared tuna on deep fried wanton noodles topped with mango salsa and their special sauce. My wife who doesn't eat seafood raved about her bacon cheese burger. They may have the best food in Matlacha. Blue Dog Bar and Grill Tim C. The summer is a great time for Florida residents to escape to the coast. Why not rent a place for the summer months with a boat slip?
