Here is John, a guest at Castaway Cottage, holding one of the many fish caught today. He fished with Capt.Charles Epranian. John made the right choice and went south to avoid the New England winter.

I would much rather be in Pine Island Florida
A new nature walk has opened up near Saint James City. Apparently, the land was acquired by Lee County previously, and now the site has been renovated for public access. The nice thing about Pine Island is that land preservation is taken seriously. If you're looking for an easy walk through the indigenous plant and trees of the area, this is a nice place to visit.
For more information about the park, please click here. We fished with Captain Charles Epranian of Fish Pine Island Sound. We fished back in J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge and caught plenty of sheep heads and red fish We capped off the day with dinner at our favorite restaurant on Pine Island, the Tarpon Lodge. We enjoyed another amazing sunset and meal; you must visit the Tarpon Lodge when on Pine Island or the surrounding area.
The Saint Jude Trail is part of the Calusa land trust and its a nice 2 mile walk through the unspoiled land of Pine Island. calusalandtrust.org Trail and Location map If you're looking for fresh shellfish, look no further than the end of Palm Ave in Saint James City. There is a small commercial fishing dock there where you can get fresh seafood right of the boat. Saint James Fish HouseIn the Northeast, outdoor showers are commonplace in beach houses and summer homes, but not so much in Florida as far as I can see. The newly installed outdoor shower will be handy when coming off the water to quickly cool off or to freshen up.
Captive Island offers more opportunities than Sanibel if you are looking to tie up for the day. During the off season Tween Waters Inn allows you to dock and use their facilities and beaches as if you were a paying guest. Great pool, bar and food service right to your lounge chair. The best part is the price, $35.00 for the day and get a $20 credit at the bar. There other bars and restaurants in the area that offer transient docking too.
